- The team concept on Superspeedways is a
tough one for a driver to accept. The only two drivers I've ever
seen pull it off ........... Dale Earnhardt Jr.and Michael Waltrip.
They will find each other and pull each other up through traffic
countless times. Whether it is in a Busch Series race, or Cup
race, these guys work the same. It is all about the team.
- This year at
the Daytona 500, their work as teammates resulted in a great win. Dale Jr. had lost 3 laps due to a
faulty alternator, but he still was able to help Michael to the win. On a
late restart Jimmy Johnson led, with Michael Waltrip in second place line
up right behind him. The
lapped car of Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the inside row and was lined up beside the 48 of Johnson. Christian Fittapaldi lined up behind
Dale Jr, also on the inside. Johnson planned to box Michael
in and not let the two DEI cars hook up, but Christian Fittapaldi had a
poor restart. Michael swooped into the open hole as he passed
Johnson, the 8 and 15 hooked up, and the rest is history.
