The Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry is one of the most heated in all sports
Over the off season the Red Sox pursued a trade for Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod is rated as the best player in baseball.
The trade involved sending Manny Ramirez to Texas, and Nomar Garciapara to Chicago. Nomar has been a great short stop for the Red Sox, and is very popular with the fans, but plays the same position as A-Rod. Manny's salary is huge, so Boston wanted to get rid of it.
The trade was stopped by the players union since the deal would require a pay cut by A-Rod. Still hard feelings remained from Nomar, who is due for a new contract, and is dissatisfied with his current offer from the team.
The Yankees have long been known for steeling deals from the Red Sox.
If A-Rod was to go to the Yankees, they too would have an extra player that needed moving. Derek Jeter is the Yankee's short stop.
The Yankees traded their second basemen, Alfonso Soriano for A-Rod. A-Rod actually agreed to switch to third base from short stop to make the deal.
Obviously a play on words is done with A-Rod's name. Connecting Rod's often break in engines.
The car represents the '04 season.

The title refers to "the curse". When Babe Ruth headed from the Red Sox to the Yankees, he cursed the team stating that they would not win another championship in 100 years. 85 years in the curse is holding true.
